The Benefits of Goat’s Milk Soap
All our soaps contains up to 25% goat’s milk, milked by hand on our farm. The benefits of goat’s milk has been renowned through out the ages for it’s excellent moisturizing qualities. Rich in proteins and vitamins, it’s no wonder it has been trusted on the most delicate of skins. GreenDay Farms handmade soaps have been made with a variety of vegetable oils that draw and hold moisture close to the skin without clogging pores, creating a rich, creamy and moisturizing bar of soap.
Why Use Our Handmade Goat's Milk Soap
Soaps have been made for millennia. Apart from making fire and cooking food, "saponifying" oil and fat into soap is one of the oldest and simplest organic chemical reactions known to ancient man (and ancient woman!). The earliest recorded evidence of the production of soap dates back to around 2800 BC in Ancient Babylon. A formula for soap consisting of water, alkali and cassia oil was written on a Babylonian clay tablet around 2200 BC.
Soap was originally made by boiling lard together with lye or potash; hydrolysis of the fats and oils occurred, producing crude soap. For our cold-process, we combine vegetable oils (no animal fats) with an alkali. A vegetable oil is a "triglyceride" which means that three fatty acids of various carbon lengths are attached to a glycerine backbone. The alkali is either sodium (for bars) or potassium (for liquids) hydroxide, made by running electricity through salt water. During the saponification process, the glycerine is split off from the fatty acids, and the fatty acids combine with the sodium or potassium to form soap, while the hydroxide forms water. The result is soap, glycerin and water (no alkali remains). The soap is then cured for about 4-weeks.
GreenDay Farms “superfats” all of it’s soaps. This means our soap is enriched with additional oils that are suspended in the soap and applied directly to the skin while bathing.
Glycerin is a moisturizer for your skin and is a natural by product of soap making. Many commercial soap companies remove the glycerin from their soap. GreenDay Farms leaves all of the glycerin in the soaps, allowing the soap to cleanse and moisturize.
Absolutely! Many commercial soap companies contain ingredients that can over time, dry your skin. GreenDay Farms soaps are made with the finest natural ingredients which make our soaps rich and nourishing. We do not add preservatives or synthetic ingredients to our soaps.
Our soap is made from only the finest natural ingredients available. Natural ingredients are more expensive then synthetic ingredients. The essential oils we use are more costly than the synthetic perfume oils that are used in commercial soaps. All the care and personal attention makes a better bar of soap.
Most commercial soaps are not really soaps at all. Commercial soaps are considered a detergent, which is a synthetic imitation of soap. There are many different chemicals that go into creating a detergent, making them very different from soap. Synthetic ingredients are accessible and economical, so they are used in place of the richer natural ones. Generally, what you get in the store is a bar that is filled with chemicals, artificial fragrances, and preservatives. Unlike the soap at GreenDay Farms, which is chemical and preservative free.
While our soaps are skin friendly, they are not hypo allergenic. People with chocolate or nut allergies may react to cocoa butter or almond oil. People with pollen allergies may react to the honey.
